Roles & panels

Members opt into languages. BabelWeave creates the roles and can lock channels to match.

Role panel

/translate roles setup channel:#welcome

Posts a dropdown of every distinct language mapped in the server. Members can pick several. The 🌐 button grants the language that matches their Discord client locale.

/translate roles refresh

Updates an existing panel after you add or remove languages. You don’t need to post a new one.

/translate me

Same as the 🌐 button, for the person who runs it.

Sync

/translate roles sync group:global-chat

/translate roles sync-all

Reapplies role overwrites. sync-all skips groups with permission management turned off (typical for cloned categories). Pass force:True on a single group to apply anyway.

Hierarchy

BabelWeave’s bot role must sit above every language role. Otherwise setup and sync will fail with Missing Permissions.

Role names look like 🇬🇧 English or 🇨🇳 中文 (native name). Don’t rename them if you want the bot to keep finding them.
